“The world is yours” comes from fortune cookie comments.
To some extent, this word reflects our spiritual needs.
When each of us is in a state of confusion and depression, we have all hoped to find a world that belongs to you in the fantasy of novels, movies, and games.
This series of works are created based on your or my world linking inner imagination and expectation, shuttle and blending between reality and virtuality, at the same time explore the boundary between reality and virtuality and the impact on society and people.
— — Chen Wenhua
The comment that Wen Jialinon gave on Chen Wenhua’s works :
‘A strong tension of the essence of thinking released by him.’
His series of works in recent years are just for us to sharpen our thinking. Starting from “The Loss of Reference Objects,” he increasingly tends to contemplate between daily life and art, abstraction and reality, and ask things themselves in familiarity and inertia. Chen Wenhua’s easel paintings describe extremely everyday things, pure abstract color blocks and ‘sketching’ mountains, stars and umbrellas. This unique picture work will be juxtaposed with real everyday objects, facing the ‘reference object’, in
Between existence and loss, ‘how do people think?’ is the subject of this project.
In addition, ordinary umbrellas purchased at the 7–11 convenience store were signed by the artist. Under the reference of the concept of ‘ready-made’, ‘will it become independent or part of the work?’ It is also a challenge for artists in art history.
ArtWork description
Chen Wenhua’s video and animation have always been sensitive to the most common and simple things in daily life. Through minimal language processing, they explore the essence of things in semantically diverse images, and analyze the relationship between reality and illusion, perception and cognition. For example, “The Perpetrator”, “Animal Research 1 — This is not a horse” and so on. In “An Island That Is About to Disappear”, Chen Wenhua uses the gurgling water around an island to connect different time and space dances and cast the fantasy together to the same island in the distance from the differentiated geographical location, But it seems that the argument has been completely suspended, and the psychological deviation is rendered in the treacherous music, revealing the essence of loneliness.
Creation narrative
‘Animal Studies 1-This Is Not A Horse’ this series borrows the social significance of animals and the naturalness of animals to explore the existence of things that have a relationship with people. The horse in the work is derived from a world-famous sports car brand. When we see this horse, our first reaction is not an animal, but a brand, a car. The natural existence of animals has been completely socialized and symbolized.
The work deliberately removes the skin of the horse, presenting a horse of flesh and blood, in order to alert us to our reflection on the existence of things in society.
